Welcome to OneOneTwo Cameron Street
Renovating this house has been like many of the projects I have previously completed …. First finding a property and then waiting for those initial feels… what good bones it has and see it’s potential. When we first visited Cameron Street, I was immediately smitten with its charm and how well built she was.
Appreciating the age of the property and acknowledging the integrity of the architect and that of the builder. What always amazes visitors is that she never creaks and groans - she is solid and so well built. The architraves give me chills…. the beauty in all the detail and knowing that this was the architect Billy Thomas’s own house is such a treat.
Apparently he was never a big kitchen lover, always making them small spaces in the darker places of the house… guess times have changed but regardless this house lends itself to what I wanted to do to provide not only accommodation but offer on site catering so having the kitchen separate from the living and dining spaces actually works in my favour.
I could not have furnished this property without the beautiful antique pieces from my wonderful late mother and father in law, I hold these treasured pieces so close to my heart and to be able to have them in this space just makes it all the more special.
I know they would have enjoyed seeing their furniture on another journey and that makes me happy. Mixing this in with my other love of op shopping is just bliss! Finding that book or that egg cup - each item has a story, deserves another life, to be treasured and these simple finds bring so much joy.
After a visit to the Ashburton Gallery and Museum early on prior to take over I looked into the portfolios of Billy Thomas and selected twelve of his blueprints and had them framed. These are displayed for all to enjoy. Unfortunately, we are still to find the blueprint of Billy’s own home - OneOneTwo Cameron Street?
What People Are Saying
“We had a lovely stay at this fantastic house in Ashburton! Perfect location, beautiful house and a great host, Ali. Thank you!”

“Absolutely superb. The house is perfect, feels like a real home. All the furnishings and appliances are top-notch, notably in the kitchen. Loved the beds, extraordinarily comfortable; deep sleeps on each of the two nights there. And the house is very quiet, looking out the dining room is a view that makes you feel you are in a small village. The conservancy is fantastic. Nice lounge with wood fire. Truly dog-friendly. Can honestly find no fault in anything. Ali is an incredibly responsive host. Having stayed in c. 40 holiday homes in NZ, this was one of the top three, despite not being in a classic rural setting. Actually Ashburton is a nice town; some nice walks (Lake Hook trail is very pretty, especially the bit near Lake Hood itself) and a nice Saturday market (great fresh fish). Ali’s house is a real gem. Will go out of my way to stay here again.”

“Simply beautiful. My family lives in Ashburton, and I can confidently say I’ve never come across a more charming home in the area. Ali is an incredible host–possibly one of the best I’ve encountered on Airbnb. Every little detail has been thoughtfully considered, making the home feel comforting, inviting, and wonderfully homely. Ali even left us some delicious shortbread and Christmas treats, which was such a lovely touch. Although it was quite cold during our stay, lighting the fare made everything feel cozy and perfect. I will absolutely be rebooking! I cannot recommend this place enough - thank you so much Ali!!”

“Ali had us all organised with ease - and the home was just devine, so peaceful, the best sleep, and the home is luxurious really. The continental breakfast provisions were delicious and next level. Really enjoyed the history of the home and its architect, a morning walk in the domain was beautiful, and the kids loved the museum on the same street. The new library was a short walk and it is pretty fantastic, kept my kids happy for hours, we must have visited daily! Thanks Ali, we will definitely be back :)”
